Cornwall Holiday Cottages

From Andrew Martin, owner of Rowse Holiday Cottages

Although my ancestry is Cornish, and I grew up in the West Country, it was 30 years before my wife Sally and I could escape our hectic London lifestyle and return to my home county. Yes it was a life-style choice – ‘lets live in a beautiful part of the county, but lets also work at something we enjoy and can do well.’

For many years we had stayed in various holiday cottages in Cornwall, so we knew what we liked, what we didn’t like and what we could do better. When we found Rowse in 2004, we realized we could build a successful holiday business.

There were some key reasons for this:

  • We had business experience and understood the value of customer care.
  • We knew we could create well appointed, welcoming and ‘home from home’ cottages eg not furnished from Grandma’s attic!
  • With Rowse, we had a beautiful, private and peaceful location.
  • We wanted to avoid 3rd party agencies and build a holiday business based on personal contact. So personalizing a holiday, always meeting and greeting, being around if needed and always saying goodbye allowed us to really understand what our visitors wanted.

Now a private 40 acres estate surrounded by woodland and streams, Rowse had been a working farm for nearly 400 years until around 1995. The original farmhouse is Grade 2 listed and enjoys a stunning setting here. The 3 cottages, Skyber, Tikkidew and Kellywyk, are entirely separate from our house, and enjoy privacy, individual gardens and off road parking.

Many visitors to Cornwall tend head west and for the coast. But here in the South East of the county (often called the ‘forgotten corner of Cornwall’), we enjoy beautiful scenery as well. The nearby Tamar Valley is truly wonderful, as is the Rame peninsula – and we have the coast not far from here. The beach at Whitsand Bay is huge, sandy, south facing and never crowded. In season there is a designated area patrolled by lifeguards as well, so it’s a great family day at the seaside.

We also give our visitors free memberships to the nearby China Fleet Leisure and Golf Club. So – be a member of this private Club with our compliments while you stay – please see our website for details.

Many of our guests visit us from Europe, and most drive! We have many returns (our current record is 7 consecutive return holidays!) so we know we have a great offering. Its important to us we give our guests a great holiday – it’s what we enjoy!

So – do check out Rowse Holiday Cottages – we look forward to seeing you!
