Cottages in Lymington, Hampshire
This pretty Georgian town is set by the sparkling waters of the Solent with an ancient quay, elegant bars, fab restaurants and cobbled lanes lined with boutique shops. Lymington offers great curb appeal, from the pastel fishermans cottages that line the quayside to the impressive boltholes that surround the stylish marina.
We thoroughly recommend a day exploring the coastal footpath along the sea wall to Keyhaven, where the views from the salt marshes across to the Isle of Wight are superb. Within a 20 minute drive of Lymington you’ll find delightful beaches, sandy for buckets and spades. We love a day out at the sand spit at Mudeford Quay, with a little ferry to carry you across. Drop in at the beach Café, or picnic in the dunes. Highcliffe Castle Beach is in a lovely tree lined setting and great for cliff top walks through the stunning nature reserves.
Lymington sits on the southerly edge of the New Forest National Park, with historical villages and spectacular open landscapes just a 5 minute drive. Pack the picnic basket and head off to the New Forest village of Beaulieu, an idyllic village where ancient communing rights permit the ponies, cattle and donkeys to graze up the little high street. Hire a bike at Brockenhurst and explore the 100 miles of New forest designated off road cycle tracks. Pop into The New Forest Visitor Centre in Lyndhurst, Furzey Gardens at Minstead or visit the popular Beaulieu Motor Museum and Palace House.
Getting to Lymington car free is simple; the train station offers branch line connections to Brockenhurst and the main line to Weymouth and Waterloo.
