Stylish self catering in the North Pennines
These owner managed cottages are situated in the charming historic town of Alston, high up in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The apartments are tucked away in a quiet corner of the town, only two minutes walk from the town centre with pubs and local shops but also just a five-minute walk from open countryside where numerous walks can be enjoyed.
Alston Art Apartments is a group of four architect designed cottages situated in the historic “Butts” lanes of Alston. The cottages are partly converted from original stone built barns with slate and stone flagged roofs and partly newly constructed on old foundations, again with traditional stone walls and slate roofs.
The four star holiday apartments catering in particular for guests with a creative or activity interest. (We offer the possibility of longer stays in order to develop creative work or to pursue a particular interest). Since opening at the end of 2009, the cottages have consistently all achieved the Enjoy England Gold Award which, in the four star category, awards properties very close to achieving a five star rating.
The properties effectively blend contemporary and traditional styles with spacious open-plan living accommodation to provide the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday.
The Local Area
The charming historic town of Alston nestles in the South Tyne Valley in a peaceful rural setting, surrounded by some of the highest hills in the Pennines. The North Pennines is one of the wildest areas of countryside in England. Less well-known than the adjoining Yorkshire Dales to the South or the Lake District to the west, it attracts many artists and other creative people who find inspiration for their work in the surrounding landscape.
