Howscales – Self catering holiday cottages Eden Valley, Cumbria
Howscales was originally built as a working farm during the middle of the 17th Century. Here you will find four quality self-catering cottages in open, peaceful countryside in the heart of the picturesque Eden Valley yet only a short distance from Penrith, Ullswater and the North Lakes.
The cottages are delightfully set around a central cobbled courtyard and surrounded by spacious well stocked gardens, lawns, and open countryside.
All the cottages have central heating and are tastefully furnished. The lounge areas have country pine furniture and comfortable suites, and for your entertainment, Bluetooth radio, Smart tv/dvd/cd player. Wi-Fi is available in the cottages for those who like to keep in touch.
The kitchens are equipped with an electric oven, gas hob, fridge with small freezer compartment,dishwasher (except Geltsdale cottage) microwave, toaster etc. All cutlery and crockery is provided so everything you may need for that special meal.
The bedrooms are individually styled, with coordinating soft furnishings and comfortable beds with duvets.
All the cottages have their own access and ample parking, some under cover. There is a lockable storage area for cycles and golfing or fishing equipment.
Hazelrigg– Hazelrigg is a single storey cottage for two and was formally the milking parlour. The open plan living/dining and kitchen area has recently been refurbished and the kitchen now benefits from a built in dishwasher.
Geltsdale– Geltsdale was converted from a former barn and is reverse accommodation with a double bedroom, single bedroom and shower room on the ground floor with the lounge and open plan kitchen/dining area on the upper floor.
Ravendale– Ravendale was also converted from a former barn and is reverse accommodation with two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, a shower room and bathroom with bath on the ground floor. Upstairs is the spacious open plan kitchen/dining area and a separate lounge with access down into the shared garden. The whole of the upstairs has recently been modernised and redecorated, and the kitchen now benefits from a integrated dishwasher.
Inglewood– Inglewood is a single storey detached cottage, with parking at the door, and was previously the dairy. It has a central open plan living/dining/kitchen area with a king bedroom and en-suite shower room at one end and a twin bedroom (super-king by arrangement) with en-suite shower room at the other end. The kitchen has recently been refitted and now benefits from an integrated dishwasher.
Inglewood also has the benefit of having its own private garden.
All Cottages are Pet Friendly and accept between 1 and 3 dogs dependent upon cottage.
All guests are most welcome to enjoy everything the garden has to offer, whatever the season. BBQ facilities are available should you wish to enjoy cooking in the open air.
There are many quiet corners at Howscales, places where you can sit back and relax and take in the peace, the quietness, the wide open countryside and the breathtaking views.
The Eden Valley has not only wonderful scenery, but also many small, delightful villages and hamlets. During the year there are several festivals, country and craft fairs, farmers’ markets, and traditional agricultural shows.
Here you will find buildings and places of historic interest, stately homes such as Dalemain or Hutton-in-the-Forest and delightful gardens such as Acorn Bank. The Settle-Carlisle railway passes through the area and to the North is Hadrian’s Wall and the border country. There are country inns serving real ales, tea rooms, village bakeries, individual shops, antique centres, art galleries and garden centres.
There are many opportunities for walking, cycling, golf, horse riding and fishing.
