Hurstone – large country house with hot tub

Hurstone is a lovely country house in a beautiful location on the Somerset-Devon boarder, near Exmoor National Park.

Hurstone offers the perfect place for a getaway throughout the year. Hurstone’s feeling of warmth and welcome is enhanced with open fires, comfortable rooms, wonderful views and an outdoor Jacuzzi. In warmer months laze around in the garden, take a stroll along the nearby trails and through the meadows or explore the country lanes and discover pretty villages tucked away in the hills and river valleys. During the winter months you can return from your ‘bracing’ country walks to enjoy the comfort and warmth of fireside gatherings, board games, snooker and dining .

Hurstone is ideal for both short breaks and longer holidays whatever the season or occasion. It offers the ideal place for get-togethers, celebrations, walking holidays and family ‘staycations’.

Accommodation

Seven bedrooms – 5 bathroom (4 en-suite and a ‘family’ bathroom ) plus a ground floor shower room – An additional double room/annex with ensuite is available at an extra cost (please contact for more information) – Games Room with Snooker Table – Large 8 person hot tub – Dining Room, Snug, Drawing Room, a well-stocked Games Cupboard – Large Outdoor Area with Furniture – Patio and Barbecue – 2 Cots and 2 Highchairs – Parking for 8+ vehicles – Online grocery shopping available from Waitrose, Tescos, Sainsburys and Asda – Catering by arrangement – Excellent local produce can be bought in nearby Wiveliscombe. The Rock Inn, Waterrow, the excellent gastro pub is within a 10 mins walk.

Please note: The property owner requires a cautionary deposit of £500 to be paid 2 weeks before your arrival.

Situated ¼ of a mile from Waterrow, Hurstone is a fine country house (originally 14th cent., largely rebuilt in the 1920s), beautifully situated with magnificent farmland and valley views from the all reception rooms, front terrace and 6 of the 7 bedrooms (the 7th looking out to rear courtyard and fields). Outside, a long terrace with tables, chairs and lawns overlooks Hurstone’s 60 acres of grazing farmland, it’s own conservation area, ponds, stream, water meadows and walking trails with views extending across to the other side of the valley to neighbouring farmland and unspoilt countryside.

Inside, the house is spacious, comfortable and characterful. The hall leads into large dining room (with 14 seater dining table and woodburner) and a games room (with half-size snooker table), and beyond, there is a well equipped commercial kitchen, thoughtfully planned making cooking for large groups an easy pleasure (duel fuel range cooker plus an additional electric oven and a microwave,) 3 under counter fridges (with fridge freezer in covered porch) Adjacent to the kitchen is a utility room ( 2 dishwashers, washing machine, tumble drier).

On the other side of the entrance hall, a beamed ‘snug’ sitting room with inglenook fireplace (with woodburner and piano) and then a much bigger slate-floored sitting room (also with woodburner) , from this room there are doors to the garden (and barbecue area). Downstairs there is cloakroom and loo, with washbasin and shower. The Hot tub is at the rear of the house .

Upstairs, off a long corridor are six spacious bedrooms, all with lovely views. Three doubles and one twin all have en suite bathrooms (suites plus bath-showers). Another small double (4’ bed) and twin bedroom, at the front, share a bathroom (suite plus bath-shower) with another twin bedroom (low ceiling) at the back of the house. Two folding beds with bedding are available (extra cost, £50-75) An annex with double room and shower room is also available (extra cost £200-£350).

There is plenty to see and do in the area including Exmoor ‘safaris’, hot air ballooning, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, all subject to availability. North Somerset Coast and Exmoor just 30 mins drive. Plenty of walking trails at Hurstone’s doorstep

“Beautiful house, beautiful location, fantastic company for my 50th birthday. Weather fab, hot tub great, croquet fun. Holly the Jack Russel had the best time and is refusing to go home. We can fault nothing except my hubbie moaned there were no baking beans – we haven’t taken him seriously on that!!! Thank you for meeting all our expectations and more.
