Mirefoot – Fabulous self-catering cottages in the Lake District
Mirefoot is tucked away in a secluded corner of the Lake District National Park located only 15 minutes’ drive from the M6. The boutique cottages are set in three acres of peaceful gardens with an arboretum and a large pond. There is abundant birdlife and plenty of activities, with stunning walks and cycle rides straight from the door. Windermere is less than 15 minutes drive in one direction and Kendal 10 minutes in the other.
The interior-designed cottages have been built with style and comfort in mind, and each of the five cottages has its own unique appeal.
Retaining a traditional Lakeland style on the outside, the interiors offer surprises. The cottages have been converted into dwellings that offer the space, comfort and facilities to greet you after a day’s adventure.
All cottages are fully equipped with bespoke kitchens. With their own music control pads and Bluetooth technology you can play your own or stream music. All cottages have fast broadband, integral sound systems and widescreen TVs. Each cottage has a wood burning stove or contemporary gas fire, and a private patio with BBQ area.

The Shippon – Stylish Modern Living
Sleeps 2: One bedroom with en-suite bathroom
The Shippon has been transformed into a sleek, modern living space whilst recalling its history in the original oak ceiling beams. The kitchen/dining area is open plan with floor to ceiling glass doors opening onto the terrace. The living area is on a raised mezzanine level with a contemporary gas fire, and flat screen TV. The bedroom has a King sized bed with wall-mounted TV. The en suite bathroom has a shower and 2-person bath with TV – so you can enjoy your latest box set whilst in the bath!
The Old Grainstore – Lake themed interior with fine views
Sleeps 4: One twin/double bedroom with en-suite shower room and one double bedroom with views and en-suite bathroom with shower and roll-top bath.
The Old Grainstore offers a spacious open plan living/dining area with wood-burning stove, and French doors opening onto a terrace. Light-filled with fine views, the design recalls a stylish lake-house with exposed oak beams, dark wooden floors, and splashes of navy and red.
Shepherd’s View – Romantic Shepherd’s Bothy
Sleeps 2: One double bedroom with ensuite bath, downstairs wet room and toilet
Evoking a rustic Lakeland shepherd’s bothy, this cottage is characterised by exposed stone walls, natural wood, and sheepskin throws that make it even more romantic in bad weather. The ground floor contains a glassed summer room with love seat, an open plan kitchen/living area with wood burning stove, and a wet room.
Upstairs to the characterful beamed bedroom and en-suite. Cosy up under the eaves of the covered balcony with a cup of tea and enjoy the views even in the Cumbrian rain.
Kirkstone – Classic Lakeland Retreat
Sleeps 4: Two double bedrooms with TVs and en-suite bath or shower rooms.
A spacious two-bedroom cottage, designed in a contemporary Cumbrian style. Open plan living/dining area with wood-burning stove and two large glass windows and French doors opening onto a partly-covered patio giving views across the meadow. One double bedroom with TV and en-suite shower room. One twin/double bedroom with TV and en-suite bathroom.
Twitchers – Traditional Country Charm
Sleeps 2: One double bedroom with a ceramic 2-person bath and an ensuite shower-room
Named for the keen birdwatcher, Twitchers is a one bedroom romantic retreat oozing country charm and shabby chic. Full of decorative features and soft, pastel colours, this spacious living space is complete with a covered patio area so that even in the rain you can sit outside and listen to the owls. Twitchers cottage is on a single-level, with wide covered porch area and sun patio. Open plan kitchen/living area with wood-burning stove and TV.
Now grown to maturity after thirty years of care, the garden at Mirefoot offers beauty and interest all year round. Accepted to open for the National Garden Scheme, the garden will open to the public for 2 days a year from early next summer.
A large pond is home to wild ducks, frogs and newts, as well as water-lilies and gunnera. The arboretum contains unusual specimens of trees, rhododendrons and azaleas.
The glass fronted gym over looks the pool and is equipped with a running machine, rowing machine, cross trainer and weights system.
