Pool House – Large House with Swimming Pool in Somerset
The Grade II listed, Georgian house with large, walled-gardens and gated drives provides stylish and comfortable accommodation. Pool House, which dates back to the 18th century, was featured in ‘Twenty Five Beautiful Homes.’ The house, with its swimming pool, has evolved over many years while retaining the quirky character and delights of a period building.
Accommodation
The grand entrance leads to reception and dining rooms which feature tall sash windows and a walk-in inglenook fireplace. The rooms are furnished with both period and bespoke furniture. The dining room, which used to be a library, is one of two formal reception rooms. The restful drawing room is there for guests to relax and make themselves at home; the inglenook fireplace provides a focal point. The large country-style kitchen and conservatory have large wooden dining tables. The kitchen, pantry and scullery have modern facilities, including the use of an Aga during winter months.
The four charming bedrooms are on the first floor. They have their own individual character and are furnished to reflect their particular style and age of the building. Each has its own private bathroom, two with large showers. Beds are large and comfortable with Relyon mattresses, and bed linen and towelling from The White Company.
Outside, a walled, secluded garden has a swimming pool and a changing room within an adjacent wooden building embellished with stained glass panels and a dovecot. The intimate garden offers several tranquil spots to relish the luxury of a quiet moment to relax, read, enjoy a BBQ or eat breakfast on a sunny morning.
Local Area
The village of Woolavington is located at the end of the Polden Hills and above the Somerset Levels. It is six miles from the coast and beaches, and a short drive from the Quantock and Mendip Hills. This area is ideal for walking, cycling and bird watching on the Levels, which include the Avalon Marshes. The house is well located to explore historic Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral and Bath.
