Shingle Lodge – Luxury Holiday Lodge by the Sea – South West Scotland

Shingle Lodge

The first of our proposed cottages, Shingle Lodge is a beautiful, new, cedar clad accommodation which has two luxurious super king-size or twin bedded rooms, both ensuite. The bathrooms benefit from underfloor heating and provide guests with wonderful sea views overlooking the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland. Guests can also indulge in the incredible seascape through floor to ceiling windows in the main living space where a log burner can be lit during colder nights. Attractive private decking can be found at the front of the lodge so guests can sit and savour an evening drink taking in the fresh sea air.

A fully equipped home away from home with all the amenities you may require during your short break. For more information, see our FAQ’s page.

This self-contained luxury lodge is a perfect as a base from which to explore Dumfries and Galloway & the Ayrshire coast or even a day trip to Northern Ireland.

Secluded Beach

Shingle Lodge is situated on its own in a beach cove only otherwise occupied by a small, luxury hotel, Knockinaam Lodge, where guests are very much invited to enjoy award winning cuisine with  Gourmet Dinners produced by Michelin Starred Chef Tony Pierce. The sandy beach is perfect for a gentle stroll with lovely views over to Northern Ireland or for young children playing with a bucket and spade and there are also local walks to be accessed from the site. To either side of the bay there are rock pools with an abundance of sea anemones, shrimp and small fish – look closely and you may be lucky to find a hermit crab or sea slug!

You can fish from the rocks, and there are rods available for your use – just bring your own bait!

Staying with family and your pet

Shingle Lodge is a perfect place to stay with the family. The cottage has two ensuite bedrooms and either room can be prepared with either a super king-size double bed or with two single beds. For families with three children we can accommodate another child under 18 months in a cot.

There is a treehouse in the grounds that children can play in and the secluded beach is ideal for families.

One dog is permitted to stay in the cottage at an additional charge and owners are respectfully asked that pets are under your control at all times whilst out in the grounds. However, pets are strictly not permitted in the bedrooms of the cottage.

Location

Shingle Lodge is located in the extreme South-West of Scotland in the district of Dumfries and Galloway, in stunning and peaceful countyside known as Wigtownshire.

The cottage sits within the grounds of Knockinaam Lodge Hotel at the end of a single-track lane, which winds down to 30 acres of gardens and woodland surrounded by gorse-clad cliffs which tower above the Irish Sea.

Local Area

Shingle Lodge is nestled in Port Spittal Bay in rural Wigtonwshire in Dumfries and Galloway

About 3 miles from the cottage is Portpatrick, a lovely little harbour village which has two small convenience stores, a couple of gift shops, putting green and a selection of public houses.

Stranraer is located about 7 miles away and has 3 supermarkets, leisure centre, museum, library, cafes, restaurants and other shops.

The coastlines bristle with delightful towns, villages, beaches and headlands and inland the more dramatic mountain scenes of the Galloway Hills dominate a large part of the region. Gardens galore, including some of Scotland’s very best, a ferry hop to Ireland, historical castles, great golf particularly at Stranraer, Portpatrick and Southerness near Dumfries, and there are excellent world class mountain biking trails at the 7Stanes sites located in the Galloway Forest Park. There are also an abundance of walking and biking opportunities to be explored during your stay.
