Southclay, Bideford, Devon, EX39 5AS

North Devon Coast

Two holiday homes on the North Devon coast that are family friendly but still ooze quality with fabulous facilities and many thoughtful extras. They are both rated 5 Star by Quality in Tourism, the assessment service for VisitEngland and provide a comfortable and stylish setting for family and friends whatever the season.

Both have private hot tubs and panoramic views of the rugged North Devon coast. They share a heated outdoor swimming pool (heated Easter-end October) and full-size tennis court at the end of the garden. Surrounded by countryside, footpaths (including the coastal footpath) and cycle trails, the properties are situated on the edge of a friendly village with the local thatched pub, church and playing fields all within a 5-minute walk. The Big Sheep tourist attraction and The Ultimate High Adventure Zone – for those seriously adventurous, are the far side of the village and huge, sandy surfing beaches; quaint fishing villages; rocky shores; golf; horse riding; woodland and moorland are all easily accessible.

Southclay sleeps 10+2 in 5 bedrooms, within a spacious, detached, contemporary home which has enough room for a larger group to spread out and to get together and be sociable.

The Annex sleeps 4-6 in 2 bedrooms in an adjacent but completely independent unit as part of a traditional stone Devon longhouse. This suits a smaller family or two couples, although it is often let to just one couple for a wonderful romantic break… it can also be used to extend the numbers in Southclay, making the total number accommodated a maximum of 16 guests in the two units.

SOUTHCLAY (Sleeps 10+2)

5-bedroom, luxurious, modern accommodation with under-floor heating throughout and cosy wood-burner for any cooler evenings or wintery days. It has a private, enclosed garden with private hot tub and shared, heated outdoor swimming pool and tennis court.

Southclay is perfect for family holidays, for groups of friends or special celebrations. It has panoramic sea views from nearly every room. 5 spacious bedrooms, two en-suite, sleeping 10 (+ 2 on small mattresses in one of the twins by arrangement with the owner) and travel cots can also be added if needed. Dogs are allowed in Southclay but only downstairs and only if arranged in advance. The property boasts a large, sociable kitchen, incredibly well equipped, with separate larder and utility; a stylish conservatory/dining room, lounge with wood burner, a second ‘snug’ lounge and a games room with full-size pool table and games/puzzle table.

Outside, there is off road parking and at the back, the patio and lawn garden stretches down to green fields with traditional Devon hedges, beyond which lies the North Devon coast. The garden contains a gas barbecue area, perfect for watching the spectacular sunsets, private hot tub, adjacent tennis court and a good-size, heated, outdoor swimming pool shared with the owners and The Annex.

Whether looking for an action-packed or relaxing break Southclay will be a treat that will revive you and leaving you wanting to come back for more.

THE ANNEX (Sleeps 4-6)

With 2 beautiful, large en-suite bedrooms, (one downstairs) this is a delightful, stone, country cottage, thoughtfully equipped with modern fittings and fixtures. It has thick stone walls, low-ish ceilings and a rose growing over the door, it is everything you could wish for in a country retreat! This property also has a private hot tub, and a cosy wood-burner in the lounge for cooler evenings or any wintery days.

Outside there is off road parking (shared with the owners) and at the back is a sheltered stone patio area with seating and large gas barbeque opening out to the heated outdoor pool area, sun loungers and tennis court shared with Southclay. There is a safety cover kept on the pool whenever it is not in use, but children must of course still be supervised where appropriate.

The Annex is perfect for a special family break or for two couples but is also often used as a luxurious, romantic getaway for a single couple. It can be booked independently from Southclay as a stand-alone unit with separate access or in conjunction with Southclay by using the side door access onto the Southclay forecourt when, with a hop and a skip, the total number of guests accommodated could be 16 (10+6)

Recently refurbished and quite charming, we are confident The Annex will be everything you could wish for in a cosy, country holiday home, summer or winter and new guests may well sign up to our list of regular visitors.
