The ancient exposed beams and brickwork marry effortlessly with the modern comforts and amenities this lovingly renovated cottage has to offer. Enter into the sitting room where you will find a large sofa in front of a cosy wood burning stove with plenty of books and games around to keep you amused, as well as television tastefully tucked in the corner and a leaf dining table. In the kitchen you have a butler sink and integrated kitchen appliances as well as a fold-up table and stools.

Up the narrow winding stairs you’ll find the bedroom and bathroom, just as full of character as the ground floor. A generous king-size bed is lavishly furnished, and the en-suite bathroom has a bath with shower over, and a suite in keeping with the style of the cottage. There’s even a lovely little south-facing terrace garden to enjoy your morning coffee in as you plan your day. All in all Bear Cottage is a wonderfully romantic hideaway that offers fantastic access to the beautiful rolling countryside and pretty villages of The Stour Valley and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Decorative gravelled south-facing garden with breakfast terrace and bistro set. Fully enclosed and surrounded by greenery.
Street parking opposite the cottage or in nearby village streets.

Access note: The stairs are steep and twisting with narrow treads. There are small internal and external steps throughout. Bedroom floorboards are a little uneven and doorways quite low.

About the area

The pretty medieval village of Nayland lies in the Stour Valley, on the Suffolk border with Essex and has lots of good facilities including local shops, a riverside pub, post office and family butcher. It is in the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of Constable Country. Dedham Vale has strong cultural connections as well as an abundance of wildlife so walking is highly recommended. Also on your doorstep is the Stoke by Nayland Golf Club & Spa offering spa treatments, golf or afternoon tea in the Lakes Restaurant. The village of Leavenheath is home to the Hare & Hounds with Saturday pizza nights.

The nearby wool town of Hadleigh is a pretty little which town boasts over 250 Listed buildings. It has a good range of independent shops and eateries, as well as town tours exploring the history of the area.

Also only a short drive away are the historic wool towns of Lavenham and Long Melford. Lavenham is considered to be the best preserved medieval village in Britain and has over 300 listed buildings. The Lavenham Guildhall reflects the great wealth of Lavenham's 16th century success and provides an opportunity to explore the intriguing story of the village.
