Deepwell Hayloft - Idyllic Romantic Retreat in Suffolk

Deepwell Hayloft is a glorious conversion of a thatched 16th century Grade II Listed barn. Large windows and original wooden beams are sympathetically offset against whitewashed walls, capturing abundant natural light and creating an indulgent, relaxing and comfortable holiday retreat in rural Suffolk.

Enter through the stable door into a bright, airy open-plan living area with wooden floorboards and a Scandinavian feel. There’s an antique writing desk and the sitting area has a large sofa and rocking chair plus television overlooking the garden. The well-equipped kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, toaster and all the essentials you could need, with a round dining table and seating for four. A mezzanine floor provides the bedroom with gorgeous super-king size bed, and there’s a modern bathroom on the split level between.

Outside you have your own private garden area with pond and garden furniture, a delightful place to sit for a quiet drink or to watch the wildlife. Being part of an established smallholding, Deepwell Hayloft also offers access to the delights of an orchard, firepit, hammock, barbecue, paths through the trees and several chilling areas, with extensive and uninterrupted views over rolling Suffolk farmland.

About the area

Buxhall is a little hamlet near Stowmarket. Granary Crafts and Museum at Buxhall is sometimes dubbed ‘Suffolks best kept secret’ and is well worth a visit for being a quirky little place with old tools, typewriters, kitchen equipment and much more, plus tea shop and craft sales. . The Brewers at Rattlesden and The Chestnut Horse at Great Finborough are both great village pubs within a mile or two of Deepwell Hayloft. It’s a lovely area to explore with lots of orchards and endless paths across the gentle rolling hills and farmland.

At the nearby medieval market town of Stowmarket you will find The Food Museum (formerly Museum of East Anglian Life) which is well worth a visit for its indoor and outdoor interactive displays, events and rare breeds animals.

Bury St Edmunds is also a fascinating historic town just a short drive away, where you will find narrow streets, beautiful abbey gardens and foodie heaven. You’re also close enough to explore the charming ‘wool villages’ such as Lavenham and Long Melford, which often score high in National ‘desirable villages’ awards.
