Post Knott Lodge - Luxury Cottage in Cumbria
Celebrate something special with a group of your nearest and dearest at this glamorous, showstopping mansion, only 500 metres from Lake Windermere. Its proximity to the water makes the property ideal for those wishing to charter a private skippered yacht on Windermere, take a breathtaking flight in a gyroplane or book a dinner cruise, dropping anchor beside a secluded island. And the central location in Bowness ensures you have no shortage of choices for bars and restaurants. Should you fancy a trip out of town, you might like to consider a day at the races followed by a meal cooked by a Michelin-starred chef in Cartmel (16 miles), or a drive to Ambleside (6 miles) where you can hike the surrounding fells and see majestic waterfalls. This memorable property, won by its current owners as part of the Omaze competitions, sleeps up to 12 people and makes the most of its location. With floor-to-ceiling windows, it has the ultimate wow factor offering uninterrupted panoramic views across Windermere and from pulling up outside, you’ll immediately get the sense you’re about to stay somewhere unique.
The ground floor entrance opens into a hallway with storage for coats and boots and an illuminated wine storage cabinet. From here, you can access the wood-clad state-of-the-art cinema room with a Sonos sound system, and the beautiful lounge that’s designed for stylish entertaining, with a wonderful wood burner and patio doors onto the terrace. A vast kitchen caters for all, whether cooking a small bite to eat at the breakfast bar, or a grand dinner party at the long wooden table for 12, with panoramic views through the wraparound bi-folding doors and windows. A utility room caters for a high turnover of laundry and there’s a convenient separate WC. The ground floor also houses the first of the six super-king-size bedrooms, Buttermere, with its private walk-in shower room. Up a level, there are four further bedrooms; the impressive Windermere suite with a walk-in dressing room, a sleek shower room with double basins, an ornamental fireplace and a Juliet balcony offering panoramic views across the lake; the Derwentwater bedroom with an en-suite with a rainfall shower; the Thirlmere bedroom offering direct access to the terrace via patio doors; and the Coniston bedroom furnished with a sofa (in addition to the super-king-size bed) from which you can take in the far-reaching views – both of these last two bedrooms are serviced by the indulgent family bathroom. The entire second floor is given over to the Ullswater bedroom, where guests have their own sofa, Juliet balcony and en-suite shower room. The property also has a leisure space found on the lower ground-floor level, accessed via the garden. This comprises a steam room and sauna, changing room and shower, and a gym that’s fitted with a Peloton bike, a water resistance rowing machine, an exercise bench and a matted space next to the floor-to-ceiling mirrors for pilates or yoga.
The outdoor space is formed over two tiers; the lower with a manicured curved lawn and hedging, and the upper with a curved terrace patio sheltered by glass balustrades. This area offers panoramic views over Windermere and is separated into two open-air sections; one with sun loungers, the other with an outdoor table and sofas to seat 12. In addition, there’s a wood-built undercover seating area lit with industrial nautical-style lighting. This has a gas BBQ, an external wood burner and a Smart TV.
