Situated in the beautiful village of Shilton, this award winning cottage is a perfect Cotswolds Hideaway. The Chestnuts has been lovingly restored and refurbished throughout to preserve the traditional whilst being lavished with contemporary luxuries. Stone floors, oak beams and inglenook fireplaces exude old world charm, while stylish furnishings, original art and a kitchen equipped for the keenest chef, make this an ideal base whatever the season.

From your very first step into the cottage you are aware of the perfect blending of old and new. A modern kitchen leads through to the newly added garden room with direct access to the rear garden. The spacious dining area has beautiful exposed Cotswold stone walls and enough seating for eight guests. The main sitting room, with inglenook fireplace, wood burning stove and exposed beams offers a perfect place to retire to of an evening as night draws in. The garden room doubles up as a movie/entertainments room with a Sony 4k television, Bluetooth soundbar, DVD player, library of books and plenty of board games to keep all ages amused.

Each first floor wing of the house is accessed by its own staircase leading to two double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The master bedroom of each wing has a king-size bed and floor to ceiling windows complete with Juliet balcony overlooking the gardens and woodlands.

Outside is a private landscaped garden looking out onto the meadow and the village ford. With plenty of outdoor seating this is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or an early evening drink after a long day exploring the Cotswolds.

The village was used as a location in the popular television drama, Downton Abbey: the Old Forge, beside the ford, became the Red Lion pub and the delightful little 18th century hump-backed bridge also featured. With its attractive ford across ‘The Shill’ brook, a traditional village green, pretty stone cottages and the popular Rose and Crown village pub (just across the road form The Chestnuts), the village of Shilton is a truly wonderful Cotswold experience.

About the area

The attractive ford across ‘The Shill’ brook, the open village green and pretty stone cottages are much photographed and make the village of Shilton a truly Cotswold experience. Shilton has a fine medieval church, The Church of the Holy Rood.

In the neighbouring village of Bampton you will discover a supermarket, the local butchers, an art gallery and a number of pubs. Bampton also has a variety of annual events including The Great Original Shirt Race, Morris Dancing and Donkey Derby.

Local eateries include The Rose and Crown at Shilton, a 17th century public house and The Bull at Burford known for its gourmet delights.

There are an abundance of quaint, pretty, picturesque Cotswold villages surrounding the area including Radcot which offers one of the oldest crossing points over the River Thames. Burford is only three miles away and Cirencester is 20 miles.

Daylesford Organic Farm is not far away and offers fresh local produce, there is also a spa, a cookery school and cafe.

Burford Garden Centre is a stylish garden centre with rustic chic home interiors and a gift shop, plus a cafe and art gallery. For a family day out the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens is a must.

Oxford is just over 20 miles away where you can enjoy a days punting on the river, admire the spectacular architecture or do a spot of shopping. Closer still is Woodstock and Blenheim Palace.

Visit the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon which is only an hours drive away.

Enjoy a day at Sezincote House & Gardens, close to Moreton-in-Marsh and also Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre Batsford Park.
