The villages of Kimbolton and Sharnbrook are small yet they offer you amenities as well as opportunities for walking and cycling. The village of Melchbourne has a comprehensive network of footpaths and bridleways. A pub is within walking distance of The Dower House (you will need a torch if returning in the dark). Rushden is a short drive away with it's new shopping centre Rushden Lakes with a selection of shops, and lake surrounding it where you can hire canoes, or go for nature walks. Nearby are the popular places of Bedford River, Olney, Huntington and Cambridge which are all well worth a visit. The Dower House is a beautiful property in a great location.
