Or maybe you would like to indulge yourself in a romantic Winter short break at Wordsworth barn – a stunning barn conversion in the heart of the Lake District. Our beautiful, 5 star gold awarded accommodation has been converted using stylish accessories and local materials – such as Kirkstone slate floors, Herdwick wool carpets and individual art from local craftspeople. When converting this former barn and stable we believe every element of your stay has been catered for.

Wordsworth Barn has a superb location in the picturesque Lake District village of Patterdale, on the shores of Ullswater and was once owned by the well known poet William Wordsworth, it offers stylish modern accommodation – a real home from home.

The famous Ullswater Steamers operate between Glenridding Pier and Pooley Bridge, and attractions such as Dalemain House, Aira Force arboretum and falls, the Kirkstone Pass and Rheged are within a short drive.

Patterdale is a popular base for touring, being in the central Lakes, with popular centres such as: Penrith, Keswick, Windermere and Ambleside – all being within a 30 minute drive.

With the towering Helvellyn close by, and the Barn nestled under Place Fell, just around the corner you find the start of the High Street range, and the famous Ullswater steamer walk along the Lake shore, all offering excellent walking from the front door and routes for all abilities. You can also follow in Alfred Wainwright’s footsteps – at least 3 of his walks pass through the village.

Accommodation Description

Our comfortable, stylish, self-catering cottage - designed for 2 people offers you modern living while retains it’s charm and oozing character with original features throughout, such as extensive exposed oak beams and areas of exposed stone. Guests receive a welcome pack and bottle of Prosecco on arrival.

Ground floor: Hall way with Kirkstone silver blue slate flooring - boot rack and plenty of hanging space for your walking gear. Plus a payphone.

Double bedroom (super king size or twin beds), solid oak furniture and quality linen. Window seating to relax and enjoy the superb uninterrupted views down the valley through a feature coloured glass window.

The large bathroom is half tiled with Kirkstone silver blue slate - bath and separate shower cubicle with a power shower, complimentary toiletries, white company towels and snuggly bathrobes are provided for guests.

First floor:- The bespoke staircase leads you up to a large open plan living space, incorporating a lounge area - with a log burner (fire laid and logs included) and comfy seating, 43" Smart TV, Fibre Broadband and Echo dot, (please remember to bring your login details and passwords for your home TV so not to miss any of you favourite programs), Digital Radio, Super Fast WiFi, and USB ports (in both living room and bedroom). The very well equipped modern kitchen has black gloss and brushed stainless steel units, Bosh electric cooker and hob, free-standing Liebherr fridge-freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, combination microwave. Dining area with round table and 2 generous leather dining chairs. Door opening on to high level veranda overlooking the garden.

Outside: There is a a choice of 2 outdoor seating areas, the patio to the front has a wicker dining set with uninterrupted views of the surrounding valley. To the rear a private veranda with bistro set.

The Barn is double glazed and oil central heating throughout. All linen, towels and fuel is included. There is a good Mobile coverage with Vodafone and EE. Management, maintenance and care of the property is carried out by ourselves.

Off road parking for 1 vehicle - a second is available by prior arrangement.

About the area

Wordsworth Barn, holiday cottage is situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the Lake District. Please find below more information on the local area.To the south of Patterdale lies Brotherswater, which has a superb flat and scenic walk along the western edge of the Lake, and a nice walk back from the Brotherswater Inn through the quaint village of Hartsop to Wordsworth Barn. To the North of Glenridding the National Trust waterfall at Aira Force is always popular, as is Pooley Bridge at the northern end of Ullswater itself.

The Lake District
Ambleside, Windermere, Grasmere, Keswick and Penrith are all within a 30 to 40 minute drive of Wordsworth Barn, making it an ideal base to explore the whole of The Lake District.

Patterdale
Patterdale is a small peaceful hamlet at the southern end of Ullswater. There are numerous walks from the cottage door. It lies at the foot of the majestic Place Fell, and you can also reach Angle Tarn, High Street and Martindale to the east. To the West lies the Helvellyn Range. The village has a pub, The White Lion Inn, a hotel as well as a village store and post office. You can also buy Mohair and Herdwick wool socks, rugs and throws from the Crookabeck Farm Shop, which is just up the road from Wordsworth Barn.

Glenridding
Half a mile to the north of Patterdale lies the village of Glenridding. The wonderful Ullswater Steamers sail all year round from the pier to Howtown and Pooley Bridge. Glenridding is also home to the Glenridding Sailing Centre, which provides a base for many of the water borne activities on Ullswater.

Glenridding has several pubs, including The Travellers Rest, Beckside and the Ramblers Bar. There are also 2 general stores selling a wide range of food and beverages, a newsagent, cash point machine (in Sharmans store), several cafes and restaurants, two hotels as well as the Ullswater Tourist Information centre.
